Web Design

I am frustrated. Most of it stems from work-related issues, but I am feeling frustrated at my lack of awesomeness at web design. My previous experience with anything web design related consists of VERY basic HTML. That's it. So the rational part of my brain knows this, and thinks that I'm doing a pretty decent job (seeing as I have never used DreamWeaver and CSS before). But the moody, EverythingmustbePERFECT artist in me hates it and wants to start over. Of course I can't do that because this site is for class, but you know what I'm saying =)

Basically, I'm trying to go easy on myself and quell the Artsier Than Thou in me so I can learn this program and get on with my life.

Happy Thanksgiving (Two Days Late)

I hope today finds you full of delicious leftovers as well as content with your holiday. I spent a relaxing day at my aunt's house, which was great because I got to catch up with everyone and hang out with my cousins (I usually have three dinners to go to every year, which leaves quality family time lacking, unfortunately). Before feasting on macaroni, greenbeans and dinner rolls (yum!), however, I ran out for an hour to capture some beautiful scenery.

I drive by this barn everyday when I go to work. It was an amazing site to see the trees almost completely shrouded in mist while the barn and windmill stand strong.

This photo was taken off of a back road where, thankfully, all development of the land has ceased (at least there's one good thing about this cruddy economy). I think it gives a very surreal look into Early Morning Virginia... in fact it looks like a gateway into another world altogether.

A great start to an even greater day! Both prints can be purchased at www.lfbphotography.etsy.com (in a variety of sizes).

Also, let it be noted that I am offering free shipping on everything in my shop!

Thanks,
Lauren

Whimsy

I love this photo. It's so simple, yet fantastical. This lil cluster of baby's breath randomly popped up in my yard and I played around with the focus until this shot came out. Sometimes all it takes is to crawl around in the weeds!

This week is my finals week for this round of classes. What's great about this is I do not have any written tests. What's not so great is I have 3 design projects, including a 30 page watch catalog layout, 2 papers and 4 responses to others' papers. Guess who's not sleeping this week?! Here's hoping to not having to rely on a 9-5 job much longer!

The Office re-runs are playing and I desperately want to go watch them. But alas, schoolwork beckons.

Anyway, this print can be purchased at www.LFBPhotography.Etsy.com. I'm donating 5% of all proceeds to the college trust fund of my friend's son (she passed away on October 30th).

Thanks,
Lauren

Keep the color alive long after the leaves have fallen...

I always get really sad in the winter. The lack of color has always had a serious effect on my mood and overall well-being. This year, I decided to [hopefully] prevent this annoying phenomenon by creating one-of-a-kind Autumn Leaf ornaments! Inspired by and molded after freshly fallen leaves around town, these lil guys will preserve Autumn in all it's luster! If you'd like to purchase one ($6 a piece + shipping), check out LFBPhotography.etsy.com.

Boyce-Smith Wedding. October 10, 2009

Last Saturday, I had the pleasure to photograph the wedding of Laurie Boyce and Clarence Smith. We were all rather nervous as it had been raining on and off for most of the morning... and this was an outdoor wedding! Thankfully, the clouds parted literally right before the ceremony, and the couple could not have asked for better weather. The ceremony site is nestled in the Shenandoah Valley outside of the small Virginia town of Front Royal. Colorful trees coupled with a backdrop of distant mountains made for a truly fairy-tale wedding.

Look at this view!

Laurie and Clarence are incredibly laid back and let me play around with my camera; Laurie even found the time to make little jokes between her photos (which made for gorgeous natural shots). All in all, I had a great time!

New Layout. New Purpose. New Fun!

My blogging life came to a halt when I started round two of college. The stress of schoolwork coupled with Corporate America Office Drama had me at a loss for words. But I'm back with new vigor to bring you stories on getting my degree (Bachelors in Graphic Design), the hardships and accomplishments of being an "adult learner" while balancing work and a photography career.

Hope you enjoy!

Sadness.

Today I found out my old dog, Shaka, has a massive tumor in his abdomen. This tumor, the vet claims, is most likely cancerous and has numerous pockets of blood throughout. It hasn't quite hit his lungs yet, but it's already crushing his spleen.

Needless to say, my dog is dying.

In fact, he is being put to sleep tomorrow at noon before this tumor either ruptures or suffocates him by crushing his lungs.

Shaka is almost 15 years old and i am so thankful I got to spend so much time with him. Unfortunately, this fortune doesn't help the pain of knowing my dog will no longer greet me with a wagging tail when I go to my parents' house for lunch or bark at my car until he realizes it's just me.

My heart is literally breaking.

I love you Shaka. I already miss you.

Before you leave your comment, type up a pay it forward post on your blog to keep the fun going. Then come back and let me know you are going to play and sit back and anticipate the arrival of your gift! Please leave your e-mail address in your post to me. Thanks and be quick!

Think of me.... think of me fondly...

Why, Hello There.

After going through Eight Months of an awful computer withdrawal (due to my hard drive crashing), I am finally up and running again.

What better way to celebrate than with a new blog?!

What I hope to accomplish by blogging:

1.  If you are like me, then you spend most of the work day thinking, "Man... I wish I had something to distract me from this annoying white-noise machine.."

I hope that my quips and musings about the world around me can offer you a moment's peace from the static most of us have to deal with day in and day out.

2. I need an outlet for the things I find hilarious about my job, family, and life in general and isn't Facebook.

So, without further ado...

A cookie's just a cookie......
